Loughborough based Barry is a part-time tutor at Burleigh Community College
Adult Centre and is also a member of "Artspace" and the Charnwood Painting
and Drawing Club. He explains why he chose "Crossing the Rubicon" as his
exhibition's title:
"When I first ventured into contemporary abstract work, a respected
landscape painter commented I had 'crossed the Rubicon' of painting.
Like
so many others, he assumed that the journey between realism and abstract is
one way only!"
"This exhibition tries to challenge the idea that the boundaries between
styles of painting cannot be re-crossed once passed through - and even that
those boundaries exist at all".
"By retracing one's path using new concerns in traditional themes we can
re-evaluate and enhance both our understanding and our progress.
The
paintings displayed in "Crossing the Rubicon" deal with various different
concerns in a wide range of concepts."
The exhibition can be seen whenever the Charnwood Museum is open and
admission is free.
In addition to the exhibition itself, Barry will also be giving a talk on
Saturday June 7th between 10.00am and 12.30pm, again at Charnwood Museum,
Granby Street, Loughborough.
Admission is again free and he will be explaining his work and showing how
he 'crossed the Rubicon'.
