The natural phenomena of these secrets locked over time in stone have always been of great interest to me. A reoccurring theme throughout my work has been erosion and decay with its subsequent incidental beauty. Producing this body of work inspired by fossils has enabled me to studying these issues whilst addressing their complicated structural qualities, symmetry, patina, and texture. This painting depicts an ammonite which had been prepared and polished. Whilst many fossils undergo varying degrees of 'preparation'- removal of stone etc, not all get polished. This particular ammonite was rich in colour and gaudy in effect. | |||
