The rock garden of the Japanese Zen temple Ryoanji is intended as a place of reflection. There are fifteen rocks arranged such that only fourteen are visible simultaneously. The fifteen shapes in these paintings were generated by folding a piece of paper as in Origami with only fourteen visible.
