Looking Back – Rhythm and Movement

An ambitious collaboration of Dance and Theatre with Visual Art and the written word, resulted in this hugely successful immersive exhibition.

ArtSpace members presented an exhibition on the theme of ‘Rhythm & Movement’ at Derby Déda from the 17th May to 29thSeptember.

The exhibition involved an exciting collaboration with Déda in linking dance and performance to visual art. Artists were given the opportunity to sketch and photograph in a selection of classes and performances and then to use their responses in their work. Ballet, contemporary dance and performance allfeatured as inspiration. Other sources for ‘Rhythm & Movement’ were as varied as birdsong patterns, flight and shapes in reflections.

ArtSpace Member, Ingrid Kleins-Daniels, an experienced teacher and practicing professional artist organised an exciting collaboration between ArtSpace and BA/MA dance students at Déda and MA Fine Art students from Derby University. Workcreated by students featured in the exhibition.

Mary Byrne, who is an artist and prize-winning author, led asuccessful creative writing workshop at Déda where work was inspired by the exhibition. Her attendees performed their poetry and creative writing at the official exhibition opening and alsoformed part of the exhibition.
